JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Assistant Pastor
JOB PURPOSE: Lead, plan, direct, coordinate, and implement all ministries for young families (families with children), designed to foster the Christian community and growth in faith in Jesus Christ in order to make healthy disciples who are “Walking & Talking with Jesus.”

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Coordinate and provide leadership in developing and implementing a young family ministry.
● Identify the needs of young families in order to develop, organize, and coordinate all programs for young families. For instance, Sunday morning teaching ministry, youth group, and midweek meetings.
● Promote the disciple-making ministry among young families (Bible study, prayer, peer care, peer evangelism, service, missions, etc.).
● Coordinate and supervise other youth activities (i.e., retreats, camps, etc.).
● Seek and maintain relationships through personal contact and/or extra-curricular activities in order to integrate young families into the life of the Church.
● Organize and coordinate local outreach programs and actively build relationships in the community.
● Oversee, recruit and train youth sponsors and schedule and lead regular leadership meetings.
● Provide home visitation and counseling for youths/children and parents in need.
● Supervise children’s ministries and teachers and build relationships with young families.
● Preach during Sunday morning services, as needed.
● Work closely with the Lead Pastors and assist in ministry, as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
● Possess a strong commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior, Sanctifier, Healer and Coming King.
● Possess a strong knowledge of the Bible and ongoing involvement in personal study.
● Be able to develop goals and achieve them.
● Possess strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to speak effectively before groups, both large and small.
● Ability to teach Biblical, practical and objective basic principles of life as it relates to young families.
● Display effective interpersonal and coaching skills.
● Possess the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
● Be able to work with others as a team, in a humble and flexible manner.
● Possess effective organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate administrative records.
● In agreement with GCAC’s essential tenets (i.e., distinctives, doctrines, values, and practices and statement of faith of the C&MA).
● Candidates seeking this position as an assistant pastor must be accredited for Alliance ministry and shall preferably be ordained or be willing to go through the ordination process by the Credentialing Council (CC) of the Mid-Atlantic District of the C&MA.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
● Master’s degree preferred in Bible/Theology or a Master’s degree in any field with at least 30 credit hours in Bible/Theology.
● Experience working with young families in a church setting. At least one year of experience is a plus.
● Flexible to work a varied schedule, including evenings and weekends.
● Possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
● Authorized to work in the U.S.
● Fluent in English.
